In our daily lives, HTML & CSS are no longer technical artifacts that concern designers alone. Everyone who interacts with technology goes through a layer of CSS: on websites, on social networks, on apps. But CSS isn't limited to the browser, it's also found in email, software and operating systems. CSS is no longer limited to the screen, as it is increasingly used to produce printed documents, notably as an alternative and DIY publishing practice. Understanding the specificities, materialities and poetics of web media means understanding our everyday technological environment.

These are both languages and standards that dialogue with the web technology apparatus to declare, manifest, a web document.

HTML and CSS are all about writing, unlike other design paradigms we're used to - typically the Adobe suite.
